The Hot Chillys La Montana - EXTRA Warm Body Fit Long Underwear has a warmth factor of 10. La Montana is a body fit and is Hot Chillys' warmest offering rating a 10/10. Some say it is actually a relaxed fit but not baggy.
The micro denier fabric provides added wind and water resistance while trapping less air than bulkier products. It breathes easy, is exceptional at wicking away moisture and can be thrown in the washer and dryer repeatedly.
At first touch, LaMontana feels (and looks) like fleece, but that is where the similarity ends. The technical makeup of the fabric is 30% ESP polyester (for some stretch characteristics) and 70% micro-denier polyester. Remember, the micro-denier poly will keep you comfortable while active or inactive because it moves moisture 40% faster than regular poly. The entire LaMontana fabric is impregnated with Hot Chillys' moisture transfer agent to work even quicker and with ATM to prevent odor buildup.
A very important point to remember, especially when comparing LaMontana to fleece is that LaMontana is virtually windproof. This translates into more warmth and is accomplished by using the micro-denier polyester. The fibers are so fine that the fabric can be knit much tighter. To insure a better fit, Hot Chillys inserted gussets of a double layer of MTF 3000 AM in the crotch and calf of the pants and under the arms of the tops.
You can wear LaMontana on the outside for cold weather running, cycling, sailing, kayaking or climbing and have some wind and cold protection or wear it under your shell pants and jacket and be super warm and dry.
That initial warm cozy feeling of LaMontana lasts all day.
